The principle employed by this technique is quite simple. Hair from those areas of the head that retain some of the hair, are harvested in the form of linear strips and then implanted onto the balder patches of the scalp. However, the excision of hair in the form of strips leaves visible scar marks that can be covered only by wearing longer hair. Using this method, nearly 4000 grafts can be implanted in a single session.
This technique is centered upon the concept of excising individual follicular units with the help of tweezers and then grafting them onto the balding areas. The method requires precise surgical expertise to be carried out. Individual hairs from any hairy area of the body can be used for grafting in this technique. Over 1500 grafts can be done in a single session.
Suturing is done to close up the large excision sites created by FUT surgery. Suturing of the wounds may lead to complications like abscess formation, immune reactions etc. no suturing is done in case of FUE, making it less dangerous a procedure.
There is a possibility of nerves being damaged by FUT, whereas, no such danger lies with FUE.
Healing time of the donor area in case of FUT spans over months whereas, in FUE, rapid healing occurs in just 7-10 days.
Visible scarring in case of FUT can become a cause of discomfort, whereas the wounds left by FUE are quite minute, hard to be seen.
FUT is more painful as compared to FUE.
Through FUT, greater number of hair follicles can be obtained as compared to FUE in a relatively smaller time period.
Lesser number of sessions are required to carry out FUT as compared to FUE, but the grater expertise required in FUE make it more expensive than FUT.
Root hairs with maximum yield can be individually selected by FUE, which is not possible with FUT.
